LARGEST MANUFACTURING COMPANIES IN GREATER HARTFORD (Ranked by number of local employees as of July 2017) UTC moves to acquire Rockwell Collins United Technologies Corp. in September agreed to buy Rockwell Collins Inc. for $30 billion. The deal will make Farming- ton-based UTC an even larger player in the global aerospace industry. UTC is financing the deal with equi- ty ($23 billion) and also will assume Rockwell Collins' $7 billion in debt. The combined entity will form a new UTC division called Collins Aerospace Systems. Rockwell Collins' business is involved in avionics, flight controls, seating and interior systems, and data connectivity solutions, while UTC focuses on aerostructures, landing systems, electric and engine systems and propellers. UTC is parent not only to jet-engine maker Pratt & Whitney but also Otis El- evator, and air conditioner maker Carrier Corp. Restructuring at Bloomfield's Kaman Corp. leads to layoffs Aeroparts maker Kaman Corp. announced in September it was laying off as many as 45 employ- ees in its Bloomfield commercial helicopter components division and transferring 40 others to a facility in Wichita, Kan. The restructuring of Kaman's Connecticut composites structures division in Bloomfield, which makes commercial helicopter components, will be accompanied by a compara- ble restructuring of its fabricated products operations in Hyde, United Kingdom. $10M in CT aid for Colt's W. Hfd. expansion In March, West Hartford gunmak- er Colt's Manufacturing said it was getting $10 million in state aid to expand operations and jobs. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and Colt CEO Dennis Veilleux announced that Colt's is buying its West Hart- ford armory on New Park Avenue and expanding operations. Colt's employs about 600. Officials said the state assistance would help fund Colt's $13 million purchase of its manufacturing fa- cility and land at 545-547 New Park Ave., adjacent to ALDI Market and BJ's Wholesale. ENERGY
