As stewards of these donations, the hospital determines how best to invest gifts from its philanthropic partners to provide people-centered care. Effective stewardship is the sixth and final component of Trinity Health's PEOPLE-centered strategy. Stewardship is not simply making donations or taking care of buildings and grounds, it is a comprehensive belief system that stems from the health system's Catholic heritage; it's the way business is done at Trinity Health Of New England. Hundreds of partners across the region — ranging from individuals like Gordon to corporations like Stanley Black & Decker — generously support Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center. They do this through event sponsorship, naming opportunities, individual fundraisers, endowment gifts and legacy gifts that result in large construction projects bringing state-of- the-art medical care to all patients and small acts of kindness that benefit one patient, truly making a difference in their lives. "At Saint Francis, we place the highest value on stewardship," said Lynn Rossini, vice president and chief development officer of the foundation at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center. "It is our promise to our donors, who have entrusted us with their gifts, that their gifts be used wisely and in accordance with their wishes." Donations are managed by the 11-member staff of the Saint Francis Foundation, which focuses on major gifts, grants and planned gifts to build endowments for projects such as the Hope & Healing Campaign, which has raised more than $20 million since its inauguration one year ago. "The foundation is the engine that drives the effort of stewardship through its professional staff and the multitude of programs, initiatives and celebrations," notes Anthony P. Giorgio, president of The Keystone Companies LLC, and chairman of the Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center Board of Directors. "The foundation is the face of stewardship for Saint Francis and must constantly reach out to the philanthropic community with myriad messages about the work, value-added results and successes at the hospital," he adds. "This is a constant effort and one that requires great planning, commitment and energy." Giorgio and Karl J. Krapek, Sr. — retired president and CEO of United Technologies and member of the Trinity Health Of New England board of directors — are co-chairs of the hospital's Hope & Healing campaign. Both men have made substantial contributions to the hospital and have been volunteers collectively for more than 40 years, giving generously of their time and talents. The Karl J. Krapek, Sr. Comprehensive Women's Health Center that opened in 2013 proudly bears Krapek's name. A room on the recently renovated oncology floor is named in honor of Giorgio's recently deceased wife Nina, who received her cancer care at the hospital. The Healing Garden at the women's center also bears her name. The Hope & Healing Campaign will enhance the hospital's cancer services program, with plans to expand the 45,000-square-foot Smilow Cancer Hospital Pictured from left, at the opening of the Karl J.
