www.HartfordBusiness.com • November 7, 2017 • GIVING GUIDE • Hartford Business Journal 21 Since 1977, Interval House has been deeply dedicated to preventing and breaking the cycle of family and intimate partner violence. Our safe house protects victims and their children. Our direct service in support of them gives our clients the freedom to become survivors. In addition to our safe house residents, we serve Hartford and the surrounding 23 towns, working with literally thousands to whom we offer support services and advocacy. Their journeys through our case management take them from safety planning, counseling, support groups, helpful referral services to extraordinary court advocacy that helps them construct a life of their choosing. It is all of this work together that brings our victims to survivorship and finally to the place where they thrive. Our collaborations with community agencies, local police departments, every facet of the court environment and our network of support services are all effective in helping a family break their cycle of violence. It is our commitment to community education that leads us to prevention of violence in the home and the creation of healthy, nurturing relationships. FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES Our annual gala, "Step Up — Step Out," is held at The Society Room each spring. A five-course tasting menu paired with premium wines, a silent and live auction and dancing make it a special evening. In October, at the Breakfast With Champions, we honor a person or an organization whose commitment to breaking the cycle of domestic violence is exemplary. GIVING OPPORTUNITIES We could not do the work we do without the support of our donors. You make our life-changing work possible by volunteering, making a donation, sponsoring or attending a fundraising event. A gift of unrestricted funds will provide us the opportunity to make the greatest difference in the area of greatest need. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Interval House is proud of our volunteers — without them, the services we provide would be significantly diminished. Direct Service volunteers assist in Crisis and Hotline counseling; facilitate support groups; and work with the children's program. Speakers Bureau Training — We train volunteers who wish to help with community outreach and education. Committee participation — Put your talent or interest to work by serving on a committee, such as Development, Annual Gala or the Breakfast With Champions. Board Service — Our Board of Directors is all volunteer and meets six times a year. Key responsibilities are Governance, Finance and Fundraising.
