The Dana Day Treatment Center in Petersham opened in June, on the bucolic grounds formerly serving as a residence and wellness center for the Sisters of Assumption. An out- patient treatment center, it is the first phase of The Quabbin Retreat project, which will serve as a comprehensive treatment site for adult and adolescent patients. The 82-acre property was named in honor of the for- mer Town of Dana, which was lost along with three other towns in order to create the Quabbin Reservoir in the 1930s. The Dana Day Treatment Center is slated to be joined by an adult residential substance abuse treatment center early next year, according to Heywood Healthcare, the Gardner-based system developing the center. A residential adolescent substance abuse treatment center will be added in the second phase of the project, and phase three will include an inpatient detox cen- ter. In total, there will be 86 beds on site. New behavioral health facili- ties have recently opened in other underserved parts of Central Massachusetts, includ- ing TaraVista Behavioral Health Center, an inpatient psychiatric hospital in Devens, and Harrington Recovery Services at Webster, a substance abuse and mental illness facility, which is also the site of a partial-hospi- talization and step-down pro- grams. Both opened in 2016. – Emily Micucci Petersham treatment center joins other new providers Dana Day Treatment Center
