The United Farmers Veterans of Maine in Windham launched MaineFirst COOP and announced it purchased the Windham Butcher Shop. Pine Tree Legal Assistance in Portland received two technology grants from the Legal Services Corp. totaling $261,250. The fi rst grant for $175,250 will be used for a project benefi tting low-income veterans, while the second grant for $86,000 will be used for improvements to statewide legal websites. The Art Corner at Gallery Framing opened at 12 Pleasant St. in Brunswick. Bangor Savings Bank and Bangor Savings Bank Foundation combined to donate $40,000 to the Genesis Fund, a community development fi nancial institution in Brunswick. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture awarded a $100,000 grant to VitaminSea LLC, a family- owned seaweed harvesting and processing company in Buxton. The Phase I grant, awarded through the USDA's Small Business Innovation Research Program, will fund a concept study for larger scale com- mercialization of the company's seaweed products.
