34 Giving Guide 2017 Worcester Business Journal www.wbjournal.com HMEA Future Goals • To further establish collaborative relationships for autism services in Central Massachusetts. HMEA provides information and referrals to 4,000 families and directly serves 300 children with autism through a variety of programs and services, including The Darnell School (Hudson, MA) and Autism Resource Central (West Boylston, MA). • Significantly reduce the number of families waiting for in-home therapy services for children with autism in Central Massachusetts due to lack of staff, by recruiting and employing students from colleges in Central Massachusetts through HMEA's newest initiative, Students for Higher ® : Rising Up for Autism. The program was launched in 2014 and has partnerships with Assumption College, Quinsigamond Community College and Worcester State University. Approximately 70 students have been hired as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapists under the direct supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). • To develop and promote the creativity of our individuals through the establishment of programs, such as horticulture, music and art therapies. • To provide employment opportunities and skill development through the implementation of employment programs, such as the Bottle & Can Redemption Centers, which have locations in Plainville and Sterling, Helping Hands Florist in Plainville and our landscaping and janitorial crews. • To continue the work of HMEA's 3rd Annual Central Massachusetts Autism Summit, which focused on employment for people with autism, HMEA has partnered with The Arc of Philadelphia to create internship programs for people with disabilities at high-tech and manufacturing businesses in Massachusetts. HMEA volunteers include corporate teams, who volunteer as a way to build teamwork while doing good, giving back, and at the same time, meeting business strategic goals of corporate social responsibility. A gift to HMEA provides essential services, like early intervention, employment programs, school-to-work transition and respite care that our children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities need so they can reach for independence. Winter: HMEA gratefully accepts donations at the traditional gift-giving time of year. Spring: An appeal is sent out to all past supporters who have yet to make their donation just prior to the close of the fiscal year. Memorials and Honorariums are accepted and acknowledged in honor or memory of loved ones or in recognition of achievements and accomplishments of individuals. In-Kind Donations of technology, equipment, home furnishings for residential services as well as communication devices and physical and orthopedic equipment and items for our raffles are gratefully accepted.
