36 Giving Guide 2017 Worcester Business Journal www.wbjournal.com MassEdCO Future Goals • MassEdCO's primary goal is to ensure that individuals achieve their full academic and career potential. We strive to provide the wide array of information and support services necessary to reach and positively impact as many individuals as possible. Low-income youth and adults whose families have had little or no experience with higher education or postsecondary training are the focus of our services. • MassEdCO will increase high school graduation rates and postsecondary enrollment and success rates for its participants in its target areas. • MassEdCO will expand both our level of services and footprint in order to build on the four decades of expertise and commitment that we bring to a community. • MassEdCO will serve as a statewide workforce development resource as we strive to ensure a well-educated employee base to effectively respond to the economic needs of Massachusetts. • MassEdCO will create greater linkages with private and governmental agencies serving similar populations statewide to ensure as great an impact as possible and an effective and efficient use of resources. Fundraising Events/Opportunities MassEdCO seeks sponsorships for its events and programs - such as college fairs, college "signing days," celebratory events honoring our college-bound seniors, program graduation events for families, financial aid nights, postsecondary/college fairs specific to adult students, and a spring forum for professionals, presenting on a current topic of interest to educators and social service staff. Volunteer Opportunities Opportunities exist for volunteers in our youth-serving programs in Worcester and Southbridge. The Collegiate Success Institute (CSI Worcester) utilizes both college and corporate volunteer mentors to work with 75 high-risk/high- potential high school juniors and seniors each year. This involves 6 weeks each in the fall and spring, 2 afternoons after school per week, for approximately 2 hours each session. Sessions take place on a Worcester college campus. Corporate partners for CSI are always welcome. There is much interest in the program from local high schools and colleges, but the CSI model requires the involvement of a corporate partner as well. Providing staff during after-school hours is the primary commitment made by a corporate partner. Volunteers are also sought to assist high school seniors during college fairs and admissions application events in the fall. Time commitment varies - could be a single event or several events. Training and ongoing supervision for all volunteer opportunities is provided. Giving Opportunities • Donations from the greater Worcester community enable MassEdCO to enhance its services to educationally and economically disadvantaged individuals. • MassEdCO participates in Giving Tuesday in November. • An annual appeal is conducted each year in December. • Peer-to-peer fundraising is encouraged year round. • MassEdCO is a designee for donations during the United Way's annual campaign. • The MassEdCO website includes a "Donate" button for website visitors.
