Despite advances over the last four decades, the manufacturing remains mired in stereotypes of a dirty, low- paying industry — set to cut jobs at any moment — only designed for the unsophisticated worker. The industry is working to prove young people can have fulfi lling, interesting careers sup- porting a healthy lifestyle. In honor of October being Manufacturing month, Mainebiz — in partnership with the Manufacturing Association of Maine — is pleased to introduce Making it in Maine, an annual publication designed to connect the young people and others entering the workforce with featured manufacturing companies offering job opportunities and willing to par- ticipate in this effort. The publication is distributed to students at all levels in Maine, and through career centers, career counselors and educators. It will also be used with the Manufacturing Association of Maine's Dream it, Do it program throughout the year. n
