O
f all the issues published by
WBJ in my two years as edi-
tor, I had the least to do with
this one.
My plan to take a quick one-on-one
trip with my youngest daughter to
Disney World shortly after Labor Day
was upended when Hurricane Irma
started rolling through Florida two days
earlier than predicted. So, instead of
arriving back in Massachusetts on
Sunday in advance of a very busy pro-
duction week at WBJ, my daughter
Brooke and I holed up in a hotel room
for a couple of days before our resched-
uled departure on Wednesday – leaving
me on the sidelines as the paper sped
toward its usual Thursday press day.
Thankfully, WBJ has very talented, reli-
able people who stepped up in my stead.
Staff Writer Emily Micucci – who also
serves as Central Mass. HEALTH editor
– took over my copy editing duties and
working with production on layout.
News Editor Grant Welker proofed all
the layouts to make sure the pages and
content looked nice and would be well
understood by the reader. Staff Writer
Zachary Comeau, who started with WBJ
back in August, wrote his first-ever cover
story and stepped up in getting our digi-
tal-first content into print.
Meanwhile, down in Florida, after our
original flight on Sunday was cancelled
along with our rescheduled flights on
Saturday and Tuesday, my daughter and I
hunkered down and prepared to be with-
out power or water for an extended peri-
od of time. This included several all-
hours-of-the-day-and-night emails to the
WBJ staff as I tried to ensure production
went smoothly.
Luckily for Brooke and I, the extent
of Irma's impact on us was loud wind in
the wee hours of Monday morning,
along with some downed tree branches.
We never lost power or water. Brooke
even got a bonus Disney day out of it, as
the parks opened on Tuesday after a
two-day closure.
And fortunately for me, the team here
at WBJ stepped up and put out another

CORRECTION: The Sept. 4 editorial "Successful sports teams will
build Worcester's brand" incorrectly stated the Worcester
Bravehearts rank seventh out of nine regional teams in the
Futures Collegiate Baseball League. The Bravehearts rank seventh
nationally and first regionally.
Also in the Sept. 4 issue, the feature "Businesses are catering to
the Sandwich Generation," cited an incorrect source and publica-
tion year for data on the number of unpaid caregivers in the U.S.,
and the median age of caregivers. The National Alliance for
Caregiving published the data in 2015.
