SERVICE LOCATION(S) Androscoggin County Cumberland County York County Community Financial Literacy 2018 GOALS CFL is coming up on the 10-year anniversary of its founding by Claude Rwaganje, an immigrant from the Democratic Republic of Congo. In that time, CFL has grown from just its founder to a staff of fi ve well-qualifi ed and committed employees and a part-time consultant. As we look to 2018, we are hoping to expand our services in order to meet the increased needs of the New Mainer community, by adding more staff and volunteers. We hope to unveil an online version of our fi nancial education programming, which will combine the most important aspects of our Basic Money Management and Savings to Build Wealth courses, helping us to reach those who have trouble accessing trans- portation, fi nding childcare, or getting time off from work to make it into our classroom. We will continue to build relationships with other community part- ners to ensure that all the needs of Maine's immigrant community are being met, so they can build successful futures for themselves in their new homes. FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES We hold several events each year, such as FriendRaisers and Donor Appreciation luncheons, but our largest event by far is our Annual Celebration, which is held in May. Our 2017 event was a huge success. Guests enjoyed fabulous food, drinks, entertainment and conversation. e highlight of the evening was no doubt the student panel discussion. We heard from Pastor Maurice Namwira, who is from the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Melissa Ntangere, from Burundi. Both discussed their experiences, and thanked CFL for helping them to build their credit and achieve fi nancial security. We had more than 30 sponsors of our event last year, and are always seeking to build new relationships with businesses that support what New Mainers can do to help our economy! e 10th anniversary will be the focus of our 2018 celebration. We will highlight the many things that CFL has achieved in the last 10 years, and reveal our plans for growth. GIVING OPPORTUNITIES CFL holds two giving campaigns annually; one in mid-summer, and another in the winter. In addition, we seek support from Corporate Sponsors year-round, whether it be to sponsor a fi nancial literacy course or workshop, or our annual celebration. One of our primary projects currently is our scholarship fund. For a long time it has been a goal of CFL's to begin a scholarship program for asylum seekers as part of our services. Asylum seekers are not eligible for federal fi nancial aid. is was the focus of our summer campaign, and thanks to many extremely generous supporters we are on our way to assisting asylum seekers to reach their American dream, with hopes of releasing our fi rst scholarships in the start of 2018. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES roughout the year, we receive assistance in all aspects of running a successful non- profi t, from both new Mainers and native Mainers alike. We are thankful to each and every person who walks through our door with a desire to give back, making Maine a great place for all to live and work together. CFL has a variety of volunteer opportunities available, from general offi ce administration tasks to marketing/event coordinating. We also have a very active advisory committee and board of directors comprised of knowledgeable community leaders.
