MISSION STATEMENT Inspired by scripture and the Church's social teaching, Catholic Charities empowers and strengthens individuals and families of all faiths by providing innovative community- based social services throughout Maine around mental health, counseling, substance abuse, senior outreach, child development, dental and orthodontic services, and refugee and immigration, among others. We continue to analyze trends, pursuing mission-related opportunities for existing service areas, identifi ed target areas and emerging social needs, includ- ing, but not limited to: f providing behavioral and mental health services and case manage- ment for adults and children; f sustaining strong services in sub- stance abuse treatment and recovery; f strengthening and growing services for the aging population; f creating program models for emer- gency assistance services; f addressing hunger/food security issues. We seek to grow our donor base by cultivating relationships with both busi- nesses and individuals and demonstrate we are trustworthy of their support through transparency and eff ective stewardship of their funds. 91 cents of every dollar we receive goes directly to those in need. FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES Our major fundraising event is the annual fall Put Children First Golf Classic, held in the Greater Portland area to support child care scholarships for low- income, working families at our two child development centers in Portland and Biddeford. We seek sponsors at various monetary levels, volunteers for the day of the tournament and we always welcome new teams! GIVING OPPORTUNITIES Our four Threads of Hope Thrift Stores in Portland, Sanford, Monticello and Presque Isle welcome gently used clothing, furniture and housewares and will provide a Drop Box to your company site for collection purposes on a tempo- rary or ongoing basis. Our Refugee & Immigration Services program accepts donations of household items to help outfi t newly arriving refugees' homes. As a United Way agency, we appreciate your consideration at pledge time. We greatly appreciate the support of businesses that encourage employee par- ticipation by matching funds. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Consider volunteering for our Connect Maine: Immigrant Mentoring Program. You will be matched to mentor a recently federally-resettled refugee based on common vocational backgrounds, schedules and personalities as they acclimate to a new community. Host an offi ce clothing drive for our reads of Hope thrift stores (Portland, Sanford, Monticello and Presque Isle). We can provide you with a Drop Box on a temporary or permanent basis. Help out in-store sorting items, stocking shelves or working the checkout. If you like to volunteer but don't have time for an ongoing commitment, our HOP Team (Hands On Projects) might be right for you! It's a team of volunteers who can be available for one-time, short-term projects where an extra pair of hands is needed.
