MISSION STATEMENT Camp Sunshine provides retreats combining respite, recreation and support, while enabling hope and promoting joy, for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families through the various stages of a child's illness. SERVICE LOCATION(S) Since its inception in 1984, Camp Sunshine has served more than 50,000 family members from 50 states and 27 countries. Focused on the entire family, not just the child with a life-threatening illness, Camp Sunshine has been a pioneer in the illness community, and remains one of the only organizations of its kind in the world. Camp Sunshine 2018 GOALS Camp Sunshine's objective is to provide respite and support to families of chil- dren with life-threatening illnesses all at no cost to each attending family. At each session, the need for the program is apparent and confi rmed by the connections families create. e program has a solid foundation with exceptional management and staff . Camp Sunshine continues to receive accolades, reviews and awards from the nation's top charity and program evaluators; Camp Sunshine has received Charity Navigator's highest rating of four stars for sound fi scal management as well as a Great Nonprofi ts top rating. e organization possesses all of the ingredients for continued success. With its unique focus on the entire family, and not just the ill child, Camp Sunshine has been a pioneer in the illness community since its inception. By bringing these groups of families together, Camp Sunshine continues to build communi- ties which foster joy, hope and support. Camp Sunshine's plans for annual growth (serving 700 families) will be coupled with the focus on securing its future through its fi scal prudence and endowment policy. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Camp Sunshine needs the commitment and dedication of nearly 2,500 volun- teers annually in order to facilitate our program. Many volunteers return again and again. ey help with food service, arts and crafts, recreational leadership, one-on-one assistance, child care and more. In 2016, volunteers contributed approximately 70,000 hours, saving several hundred thousands of dollars; enough money to bring several hundred families to Camp! Since 1984, more than 38,500 volunteers have generously contributed over one million hours of their valuable time. Camp Sunshine volunteers range in age from 16 to 80 and include doc- tors, nurses, social workers, teachers and business executives, as well as many high school and college students.
