Hospice of Southern Maine (HSM) provides comprehensive hos- pice care to patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families, regardless of their fi nancial circumstances. Formed through a collaborative eff ort among community leaders, HSM began off ering patient services in 2004. Hospice care is comprised of a highly skilled, multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, social workers, hospice aides, chaplains, and volunteers who provide care to over 1,500 patients and their families annually. In 2007, HSM opened Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. Over the past 10 years, Gosnell has been a home away from home for more than 6,000 patients. At HSM we respect individuals' wishes, maintain patient dignity, control pain and manage symptoms, and impart emotional, social, and spiritual support. We provide complimentary bereavement to help loved ones through the dif- fi cult experience of grief and loss. Our vision statement has an ambitious and inspiring focus: "As a leading non-profi t provider of hospice care, HSM is positively shifting societal atti- tudes concerning death and dying." FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES HSM hosts a variety of events throughout the year. Anyone may attend, and business sponsorships are welcomed.
