In 1936 its founders had a vision: to meet the unmet needs of Maine people with disabilities through innovative services. eir vision and foresight has set Pine Tree Society on a long-term path of growth. Today, we continue to grow and evolve to effectively address needs and transform more lives. In 2018, Pine Tree Society is focused on expanding to meet the unmet needs of children with disabilities, including autism and co- morbid mental health disorders. is includes launching new service areas including in-home support for families. At the same time, the organization will renovate its Auburn-based location, home of our Early Learning Center and adult day programming. Pine Tree Society will also expand access to meaning- ful work opportunities, expand programming at Pine Tree Camp and increase opportunities for people who are Deaf through American Sign Language Interpreting and other services while simultaneously continuing to evolve cur- rent services to best meet the needs of the people it serves. FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES Pine Tree Society's special events are focused on raising money to support Pine Tree Camp's Campership Fund. Since it opened in 1945, Pine Tree Camp has welcomed all who could benefit from a barrier-free summer camp opportunity regardless of their ability to pay the $1,900 tuition. Last year, Pine Tree Camp provided nearly 99% of its 650 campers with full or partial tuition assistance. e Open Door Policy remains firmly in place, thanks in part to the support of participants and business sponsors throughout Maine. Dysart's Snowmobile Ride-in to benefit Pine Tree Camp, February 2-3, 2018, Newport – Celebrating 45 years, the event draws community members as well as snowmobilers from throughout the state. Paddle for Pine Tree Camp, June 2, 2018, Kennebec River - e 22nd Annual Paddle for Pine Tree Camp features a family-friendly paddle on the Kennebec River, ending with a cookout overlooking the water. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Pine Tree Society has a full range of meaningful volunteer opportunities that directly impact Maine people with disabilities. Whether it is helping to main- tain Maine's only accessible tree house, leading a group activity for adults with developmental disabilities or supporting the Paddle for Pine Tree Camp by act- ing as a water safety escort, there is something for everyone–regardless of skill level and time availability.
