The vision is the elimination of equine abuse and neglect. SERVICE LOCATION(S) State of Maine Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals 2018 GOALS 2018 is set to be a banner year in the history of the organization. e MSSPA is entering a capital project to construct an indoor equine training facility. is space will allow staff to work towards the Society mission, giving horses special- ized training, to return them to health and to make them more attractive to potential adopters. Additionally, the administrative offices will be consolidated to the farm on River Road in Windham. FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES Individuals and groups are welcome to visit the farm daily from 1 p.m.–4 p.m. September through May and 1 p.m.–6 p.m. June through August. Guests may pick up a self-guided walking tour in the Welcome Center. is newly released commemorative guide takes visitors around the farm, shares history and farm facts. People can also learn more about their favorite horses thanks to informa- tion cards located on each stall. Private tours can be arranged for larger groups or those with differing abilities, such as preschools or retirement homes. f April: Annual Maine Horse Jubilee — Featuring demonstration of train- ings, activities for children, adopted horse reunions, farm explorations, mer- chandise for sale. f March-June: Buy-A-Bale — Be part of an organizational staple and give towards the annual hay campaign. Every year, the Society works to raise enough money to make or purchase the 20,000 bales of hay needed to feed MSSPA horses for the year. In 2017, the Society raised over $100,000 during the Buy-a-Bale campaign. f December: Christmas Open House for the Horses — Join the MSSPA for this annual tradition, the first Sunday in December for Christmas with the horses. Enjoy sleigh rides, hot cocoa, a chance to explore the barns, enter the raffles, and even get some holiday shopping done. GIVING OPPORTUNITIES e MSSPA is proud that 100% of individual donations goes directly to support the horses. Gifts can be accomplished by making a donation in-person, over the phone, via the secure website, or even by text. Donors are able to work with the capable development team to fulfill their philanthropic goals by participating in deferred gifts through various planned giving opportunities. In-kind donations are always welcome. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES ere are many types of volunteer work and projects available at the Society. You may choose to help out with daily farm chores, bring a group for a project or enjoy supporting the MSSPA at a public event. Regular volunteers work side by side with staff completing daily chores. Event volunteers fulfill many roles during our capstone events. Corporate and school groups often volunteer at the farm during days of service. eir collective mass allows large-scale projects to be completed quickly and with ease.
