SERVICE LOCATION(S) The LifeFlight Foundation is the charitable fundraising organization supporting the nonprofit LifeFlight of Maine. LifeFlight of Maine has three bases of operation: Bangor, Lewiston and Sanford and serves every hospital and community in Maine, plus mutual aid for our colleagues in New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts. The LifeFlight Foundation/ LifeFlight of Maine 2018 GOALS After raising funds to add a fixed wing aircraft (2015) and third helicopter and new base in Sanford (2017), LifeFlight's big fundraising project for 2018 is to replace our two other helicopters. ese two aircraft have served the people of Maine since 2005, covering millions of miles and helping to care for more than 23,000 patients. As Maine's rural hospitals undergo significant changes in an ever-evolving healthcare environment, LifeFlight is always building resources to ensure critically ill and injured patients can get to the care they need. LifeFlight operates at a rate nearly twice the national average for medical heli- copters and is one of the most highly recognized critical care flight programs in the country. With rapid changes in aviation and medical technology, LifeFlight engi- neered the new helicopter and replacements for "next gen" aviation and medicine. With state-of-the-art avionics (instrumentation) and new generation engines and composites, the new aircraft are significantly faster, more powerful, and have longer range. e interior is designed to accommodate the next generation of critical care. FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES LifeFlight holds a number of events throughout the year. Our Islesboro Crossing for LifeFlight, held in August, is the organization's signature community event. rough this non-competitive, pledge-based swim, more than 500 people are engaged in LifeFlight's mission. Since the event's humble beginnings in 2013, hundreds of swimmers, paddlers, volunteers and businesses have pitched in and helped raise more than $500,000 (and counting!) for LifeFlight. With a unique spirit of camaraderie and teamwork, the crossing symbolizes the challenge of providing lifesaving emergency medical care to Maine's islands and rural communities. It's a great way to get involved and make a difference for critically ill and injured patients across Maine.
