Together with our supporters, we're helping kids and adults live longer and grow stronger. SERVICE LOCATION(S) All 16 counties in the state of Maine 2018 GOALS Finding research breakthroughs across diseases MDA takes a big-picture perspective across neuromuscular diseases to uncover breakthroughs that will accelerate treatments and cures. e power in this research approach is that knowledge and information from one disease can often yield progress in others to speed urgently needed answers for families. In 2016, MDA awarded $16 million to 70 research grants. Caring for kids and adults from day one MDA provides early diagnosis, highly specialized care and access to promising clinical trials at MDA Care Centers in top hospitals and health care facilities across the United States and Puerto Rico. In 2016, MDA coordinated nearly 50,000 visits at our best-in-class, comprehensive MDA Care Centers. Empowering families with services and support From support groups and educational seminars to assistance with durable medical equipment and giving kids with muscular dystrophy the best week of the year at MDA Summer Camp. MDA empowers families in hometowns across America with help and support they need today. In 2016, about 3,800 kids experienced MDA Summer Camp at no charge to their families. FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES f MDA Shamrocks (March 2018) e nation's largest St. Patrick's Day fundraiser. Selling MDA Shamrocks inspires pride in associates and encourages friendly interaction with customers. Shamrock pinups are sold to customers and patrons for $1 and $5 contributions. f MDA Muscle Walk (September 2018) A life-changing experience that unites families, friends, neighbors and local businesses to forge powerful connections, celebrate the strength of MDA families and transform hope into answers. f MDA Lock-Up (May-June 2018) A unique community event that is a fun way to help local children and adults who live with muscle disease. By being an MDA Jailbird, community and business leaders ask their contacts to make donations to your "bail", which are funds that will help MDA in its mission. f MDA Fill the Boot (Yearlong) For 63 years, MDA has partnered with our hometown heroes to raise money and awareness for families living with Muscle Disease. Fill the Boot fundraising events are held all over the state of Maine at various times of the year. Fire fi ghters collect donations in their "Boot" from those in their community. ank you to the International Association of Fire Fighters, the Professional Fire Fighters of Maine and all fi re departments across Maine for your continued support and partnership "fi lling the boot" for MDA. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES If you're 17 years of age or older, you're invited to apply and join the MDA team as a summer camp volunteer.
