Allen has been promoted to chief financial officer of Wallingford-based Edible Arrangements International from vice president of finance and accounting. Allen joined Edible in 2015 after roles that included corporate finance and strategic planning leadership positions at PepsiCo, Starwood Hotels and Waterworks. Allen succeeds Tony DiPippa, who will take on an expanded role overseeing the day-to-day operations of Edible and working closely with founder and CEO Tariq Farid to manage his portfolio of companies. Joseph Blackburn, Kevin Hickey and JaDeane Ing have joined Middletown-based Community Health Center Inc. in senior roles — Blackburn as vice president of human resources, Hickey as director of facilities, and Ing as chief development officer. Blackburn has more than 15 years of HR experience, most recently as HR director at Ridgefield's Boehringer Ingelheim. Hickey's career spans more than 20 years managing facilities, construction and operations for nonprofit healthcare and hospitality organizations. Takanori Fukushima, Juha Hernesniemi and Ali F. Krisht, three neurosurgeons internationally recognized for their technical excellence and for advancing the field of neurosurgery, are joining UConn Health as consulting faculty. Fukushima, who holds academic appointments on three continents, has performed more than 24,000 neurosurgery cases in the United States and Japan over five decades. Hernesniemi, professor emeritus of neurosurgery at the Helsinki University Hospital, has performed more than 14,000 neurosurgery cases and is a publisher of scientific journal articles on cerebrovascular diseases, brain tumors, and neurosurgical techniques. Krisht, co-founder and director of the Arkansas Neuroscience Institute at CHI St. Vincent, is a leading advocate of excellence in technical neurosurgery. Richard "Rick" Cheney has joined Willimantic-based Savings Institute Bank & Trust as Enfield branch manager. Cheney's experience spans more than 20 years in community banks in the Somers and Enfield areas. He comes to Savings Institute Bank & Trust from United Bank. Justin Vicino, a mortgage banker with nearly two decades of industry experience, has joined Glastonbury- based United Bank as a mortgage loan officer. Vicino comes to the bank after three-plus years with Guaranteed Rate and brings an extensive background in real estate and mortgage banking. Mary Boyd was recently appointed head of the personal lines agency channel at The Hartford in addition to her current role as head of the personal lines direct channel. In this expanded role, she will be responsible for strengthening alignment across the business, while continuing to maintain the company's individual channel focus. Dr. John Rodis, president of St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, and James Wakim, chief operating officer for Simon Konover Co., have joined the University of St. Joseph's board of trustees. Rodis, the first physician to serve as president of St. Francis since its founding, is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and maternal- fetal medicine. He also serves as a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at UConn School of Medicine and the Frank H. Netter School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University. Wakim is a returning member of the board for the West Hartford university after serving from 2012 to 2015. Wakim, a lawyer, will bring his law background and expertise in real estate to the board. Magdalena Owczarska has been hired as a digital solutions manager at Mintz + Hoke, an Avon-based marketing agency. As part of the digital team, Owczarska will help plan and design web applications, display advertising and e-marketing programs. Prior to joining Mintz + Hoke, Owczarska was a marketing manager at MRI: Premium Distribution Services, where she managed all company marketing efforts including an e-commerce website and e-marketing campaigns. Wendy Avery, owner of Wendy Avery Design in West Hartford, was recently elected president of the board of trustees for Watkinson School, a co-ed independent day school for grades six- 12 in Hartford.
