Stellwrist LeanBox
to us and has a lot of corporate offices that we
think potentially lack access to healthy fresh
food," Coakley said.
LeanBox kiosks often contain sandwiches,
salads, yogurts, pressed juices and other items,
which are sourced from a variety of vendors.
The company hasn't tapped any Connecti-
cut food or beverage makers yet, but Coakley
said it likely would.
"Local is always a big thing," he said.
LeanBox kiosks, which cost between
$1,000 and $1,500 a month to rent, are
equipped with computer screens that accept
debit and credit card payments, but employ-
ees can also use an app to check out. Gener-
ous employers can put credits on employee
accounts to provide discounted or free food.
The computerized system is also crucial
to logistics, as it lets LeanBox know what
needs restocking, Coakley said. n
will be ready for delivery and the office will
eventually staff American service people. The
company has invested $500,000 in its Berlin
U.S. headquarters.
Steelwrist did not
receive assistance
from the state
Department of Eco-
nomic and Commu-
nity Development or
tax incentives from
the town of Berlin.
The Berlin loca-
tion will feature a
"supersized sand
box" in which cus-
tomers can try Steelwrist products before
making a purchasing decision. Because of
its location, Stockhaus and Yanes anticipate
strong interest from New England dealers who
sell excavating equipment.
"Though the Berlin office currently
employs three people plus an outside sales-
person, we plan
on building an
American team,
hiring and train-
ing mechanics,
engineers, admin-
istrative and ware-
house workers,"
Yanes said. "As
sales increase, we
may open a second
U.S. operation on
the West Coast."
Chris Edge, Berlin's economic devel-
opment director, said he anticipates the
company will grow long term in central
Connecticut. n
