Susan Collins announced that the Senate Appropriations Committee approved more than $7 million for the maintenance dredging of the Saco River, York Harbor and Wells Harbor. The funding was included in the Energy and Water Development Appropriations bill. Full Plates Full Potential, an organiza- tion in Portland dedicated to ending child hunger in Maine, granted more than $26,000 to Maine Public Schools and nonprofi ts addressing student hunger and increasing access to nutri- tious school breakfast. Avesta Housing in Portland received a $10,000 charitable grant from KeyBank Foundation for its NeighborWorks HomeOwnership Center to provide fi nancial counseling services to afford- able housing applicants. Clare Lygo purchased Book Review, a book store in the Falmouth Shopping Center, 251 U.S. Route One in Falmouth. West Elm Hotels, a division of the Brooklyn, N.Y., home-furnishings chain West Elm, plans to work with Portland Foreside Development Co. to build a 150-room boutique hotel as part of the mixed-use development planned for 58 Fore St. in Portland. West Elm opened a home-furnishings store at 164 Middle St. in Portland in late July. Portland Foreside Development is a di- vision of CPB2 LLC, which is develop- ing the former Portland Co. site. The Cumberland County Committee of the Maine Community Foundation awarded a total of $68,468 in grants to 11 nonprofi ts. Rough & Tumble, a leather handbag and apparel manufacturer in Norway, plans to expand to a third location in the Fort Andross Mill in Brunswick in August.
