REAL ESTATE Rocky Hill Hampton Inn breaks ground A $7.1 million Hampton Inn and Suites is being built in Rocky Hill. Ground was recently broken for the 90-room hotel at 685 Cromwell Ave. The approximately 58,000-square-foot Hampton Inn, officials said, will feature the latest guest technology, including digital-key check-in, and amenities, including an indoor saline pool, outdoor patio with fireplace, and meeting space. It will employ 25 to 30 workers. Lotus Hospitality Inc., Berlin owner/operator of several Connecticut hotels in the Greater Hartford and New Haven areas, is the developer. Lotus' portfolio includes the Comfort Inn and Suites and EconoLodge, both in East Hartford. HBT Architects of Rochester, N.Y., is designer. BBL Construction Services, of Albany, N.Y., is general contractor. CT home sales up sharply Statewide sales of single-family houses and con- dos/townhomes rose in June, Realtors say. There were 4,448 houses sold across Connecticut last month vs. 4,183 sold in June 2016 — a 6.4 per- cent increase, the Connecticut Association of Realtors said. Median price for homes sold in June was $280,000, just 1.8 percent more than the $274,950 median for the same month last year, CAR said. In the statewide condo/townhome market, CAR counted 1,016 units sold in June, up 9 percent from 933 units in June 2016. Their median price rose 8.8 percent to $185,000 from $170,000 a year earlier. Randy Edsall GOVERNMENT, POLITICS & LAW State pension returns set record Connecticut's pension funds topped an all-time high in fiscal 2017, recording a net investment return of 14.2 percent, accord- ing to State Treasurer Denise L. Nappier. The Connecticut Retirement Plans and Trust Funds had assets of $32.4 billion at the end of June 30, according to preliminary, unaudited investment results. After paying fees and expenses, the overall portfolio grew by over $3 billion in value during the year, she said. The two largest pension funds, the Teachers' Retirement Fund (TERF) and the State Employees' Retirement Fund (SERF), re- turned 14.4 percent and 14.34 percent respectively, exceeding their benchmarks by 116 and 117 basis points, Nappier said.
