Griffin, a publicly traded New York City-based real estate developer/land- lord that has major operations in Bloom- field, said one of its units refinanced the mortgage with Berkshire Bank, secured with its 100 International Drive indus- trial building. The 10-year note replaces a previous loan that was due to mature in Feb. 2019, Griffin said. The new loan bears a 4.39 percent rate The 304,000-square-foot building is one of several that comprise the tradeport straddling East Granby and Windsor, in the shadow Bradley International Airport. National tire distributor Tire Rack is a sizable tenant in the building. Tallan to occupy United Bank's Glastonbury office space Rocky Hill software developer Tallan Inc. has sublet United Bank's Glastonbury office space for its new home. Tallan, presently housed in the Corpo- rate Ridge office-industrial campus, at 175 Capital Blvd., plans a late November move into 22,661 square feet at 45 Glastonbury Blvd. that United Bank is vacating to relo- cate by yearend to the Goodwin Square office tower in downtown Hartford. Sentry Commercial represented Tal- lan in lease talks with United Bank and its broker, CBRE-New England. Ozick Drive, Durham deals A series of commercial-industrial leas- es and property sales totaling more than 25,000 square feet were recently signed on properties located in Durham's Ozick Drive neighborhood, abutting the Walling- ford border. At 42 Ozick Drive, Unit 6, Geiss AG, a German maker of thermoforming machines and computer numerically controlled (CNC) specialty trimmers leased 3,400 square feet for its Geiss LLC manufacturing unit. At 48 Ozick Drive, a newly built, 18,000-square-foot industrial flex build- ing, CT Communications signed for 6,000 square feet for its sales-service of phone data systems, network cabling, video and surveillance systems. Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network names WNPR news director Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network (CPBN) has appointed Jeff Cohen as news director of WNPR, its network of public radio stations in Con- necticut, western Massachusetts and eastern Long Island affiliated with National Public Radio (NPR). Cohen has been a WNPR reporter and occasional host for "All Things Considered" since 2010. Dur- ing his past seven years on the news staff, Cohen has reported on notable stories, many of which have been featured nationally on NPR. Prior to joining WNPR, Cohen was a reporter at the Hartford Cou- rant. He's also the author of two children's books. Ben Bronz Foundation welcomes new executive director The West Hartford-based Ben Bronz Foundation, a nonprofit that helps bright students who struggle to learn through a variety of programs and services, wel- comed a new executive director this month, Kim Holley. Holley will direct the programs of Ben Bronz Acad- emy, The Learning Incentive and satellite programs, including the Cyber Launch Pad Summer Program. Holley retired from the state of Connecticut in June, serving as superintendent of Unified School District No. 1, a district within the state Department of Correction providing educational programs for incarcerated individuals to help them successfully transition to society. She served in the district more than 20 years in a variety of roles. Prior to joining Smilow Cancer Hospital Yale-New Haven at St. Francis, Karanam worked at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire, Wis. Karanam's clinical interests include gastrointes- tinal malignancies and breast and gynecological cancers. He is interested in the practice of precision oncology, incorporating molecular biology and ge- netics to individualize patient treatment. UConn Health, JAX jointly appoint genomics expert Christine Beck, a genomics expert, will join The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine and UConn Health as their fifth joint-appointed faculty, effective Aug. 4. Beck comes to JAX and UConn Health from Bay- lor College of Medicine, where she completed her postdoctoral work as a research fellow.
