Improved broadcast technology is enabling CRIS Radio to expand its service in lower Fairfield County. The nonprofit will use recordings of articles published in local news- papers and the New York Times Metro edition for people who are blind or unable to read due to a print disability or medical condition. CRIS' 300 volunteers operate its broadcast center in Windsor and regional studios in Dan- bury, Norwich, Trumbull and West Haven. • • • CREC Public Safety Academy received a $150,000 planning grant from the Barr Foun- dation's education program to develop a pro- gram to help disengaged students graduate high school and guide them toward a postsecondary education or employment.
