Not available Travelers presented $1,000 to eight Quinnipiac University students to assist with the cost of books and other academic- related expenses. Travelers has been providing these awards to Quinnipiac students since 2009. The Women & Girls' Fund of Main Street Community Foundation awarded $45,465 to 15 organizations serving women and girls in Bristol, Burlington, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington and Wolcott. The grants were awarded at the organization's annual reception. The Hartford Foundation awarded a $102,449 grant to the Center for Latino Progress to establish its Transport Hartford Academy. The Transport Hartford Academy will seek to deepen resident engagement and create a group of active and informed residents who will provide input into the future transportation developments in the Hartford region. The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Waterbury received a $18,696 donation from Comcast Corpo. to help upgrade the Club's heating system. The award is part of the state of Connecticut's Neighborhood Assistance Act Tax Credit program. Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union is celebrating the grand opening of its newest location in West Hartford Center by donating $5,000 to one of West Hartford's 16 public schools. The school with the most votes at the end of the voting period will win $5,000 for the project of their choosing. Simsbury Bank made an $800 donation to the Granby Camera Club in exchange for photos, taken by club members, which are featured in the bank's 2017 full-color calendar. The bank has been publishing a free calendar of local photos each year since 2003. The Prudential Foundation has awarded the University of Hartford's Entrepreneurial Cen- ter a renewed grant of $75,000. The Univer- sity of Hartford's Entrepreneurial Center provides hands-on coaching and business training for new and expanding small busi- nesses, as well as aspiring entrepreneurs, throughout Connecticut. Mystic Aquarium in collaboration with the University of Connecticut's Department of Marine Sciences at Avery Point, has been awarded a $283,827 grant from the National Science Foundation. The grant will allow both organizations to develop and implement research experi- ences for undergraduates at UConn's and Mystic Aquarium's research laboratories, both located at UConn's Avery Point campus. A total of 24 students – eight per year over three years – will participate in the 10-week program that will give pupils a chance to develop scientific laboratory and field-based research skills.
