B R I E F S Add flights, improve transportation at Worcester airport Earlier this month, Rectrix Aviation starting offering flights out Worcester Regional Airport to Hyannis for just $99 through Sept. 4. F L A S H P O L L Kelley Square development slated for $838K tax break Worcester City Council is recom- mending a 10-year, $838,000 tax break for a planned mixed-use development in Kelley Square. The 70,000-square-foot project, which will consist of 48 market-rate apartments and a 20,000-square-foot public market and restaurant, will increase the total assessed value of its site from $390,700 to $8,529,000. The current use of the empty dirt lot pri- marily is parking for Crompton Place. The project, located at 152 Green St. and 220 Harding St. in Kelley Square, is being developed by Allen Fletcher. It will cost an estimated $21.3 million, including $4 million for acquisition and $17.3 million for construction. It's eligible for a tax break because it's in a designated Urban Density Residential District, which means that it can receive up to an 80-percent real estate tax exemption for up to 20 years. What do you use the Worcester airport for? I've used the airport for a commercial flight to either Orlando or Fort Lauderdale. 51% I usually fly out of Boston/ Providence/Hartford/ Manchester but will use Worcester for New York or Baltimore flights. 24% COMMENTS: "It's too expensive, and there aren't enough flight options. Car rental service is also too expensive and only open half the time." "I know it may be too late and expensive, but for Worcester Airport to work, there needs to be direct access from the Mass Pike and/or I-290. If you look at TF Green in Providence, there is a direct exit off I-95 as well as the MBTA train stop at the airport. Worcester needs similar accessibility for the airport to survive." "A regularly scheduled flight to Myrtle Beach, S.C. would be nice. We enjoyed using the Direct Air flight to Myrtle Beach quite often. It was always full every time we used it." I've never used the Worcester airport for travel. 24% Allen Fletcher's proposed $21-million Canal District mixed-use development 1% I've used it for a charter/private flight or a short commercial flight to Hyannis.
