34 Hartford Business Journal • July 17, 2017 www.HartfordBusiness.com Bobby Nims Q&A: What do you do in your current job? I am fortunate to drive optimal outcomes through leading successful projects for Cigna's individual and family plan seg- ment. I lead operative implementation and execution of programs to make a real difference everyday in the lives of the people Cigna serves. What are your goals in your current job? I will be a catalyst and convener to build sustainable solutions that create increased value for our customers, com- pany and stakeholders. I will continue to push for a better tomorrow and improve the health, well-being and sense of security for our customers in ways they find proactive, personal and empathetic. What's your biggest passion? I want to champion meaningful change in the community through non- profit leadership, innovative development, volunteer mobilization and philanthropic entrepreneurship. I am very motivated and passionate about making a positive and sustainable difference in our community and to the lives of those who need help the most. I feel very blessed and appreciative of the opportunities to help nonprofits and others achieve their goals and dreams. What are your future professional aspirations? I aspire to cultivate my influence as a positive change agent and leader in our community. Leveraging my experience earning a graduate certificate in public and nonprofit management from UConn and absorbing my existing board and other volunteer experiences, I'm excited to continue helping our community in the future. How are you involved in the community? I am proac- tively involved in the Hartford community on several fronts including being a member with United Way's Community Engagement Committee and 2017's Quest Class with Leadership Greater Hartford. I also recently launched Dollar Giving, a platform to promote nonprof- its featuring stories and raise money through philan- thropic crowdsourcing and microfunding. If you were governor of Connecticut for a day what is one policy you'd push to improve the state's future? As a member of the State Independent Living Council, I'd fund each of the five Independent Living Centers $500,000 annually over the next 10 years. We must pro- mote equal access, opportunity and full inclusion for individuals with disabilities. We must strengthen our community to be barrier free and promote the rights, value and dignity of individuals with disabilities. List four reasons why you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty: Chair board of directors of Independence Unlimited, which helps individuals with disabilities in the Greater Hartford region live independently and achieve their goals and dreams. Connecticut media relations chair of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, which supports research advancement, patient support and wage hope with those affected by pancreatic cancer in Connecticut. Founder and executive director of Dollar Giving, a nonprofit public charity launched this year focused on small donations that give back in a big way to the Hartford community. I share this recognition with my parents and family who taught me selfless life values. I am a classical pianist and enjoy performing spontaneously for family and friends. The typical day in my job is spending time working directly with my customer — I am focused on a local aerospace company. We understand their engineering gaps and work to identify effective ways to help them using our resources and tools. What are your goals in your current job? Maintain strong customer relationships and use the Cyient team to provide smarter and faster solutions. The more we devote to the job, the more we will become the go-to for all the customer's needs. What's your biggest passion? My biggest passions are the two outreach organizations I work with. I sit on the board of directors for Double Dog Rescue, a Connecticut-based dog rescue. I am also the co-leader of a Hartford-based employment program call the Aerospace Employment Placement Program, AEPP. What are your future professional aspirations? I have been blessed with a career in a growing industry. I would like to continue to be challenged and learn, how that develops my career is to be seen. I have also had the opportunity to bring the AEPP program to my places of employment and that is very important to me. I have had strong leaders with big hearts to help me along the way and I would like to lead like that throughout my career. How are you involved in the community? This circles back to my biggest passion. I am lucky to help my local community with the AEPP program and reduce the homeless jobless population in Greater Hart- ford. The program helps with schooling, support and someone believing in you. Bringing people and their families from homelessness to productive and career focused lives changes the way they think and approach life. This is important and very rewarding. What do you hope Greater Hartford will be like in 10 years? I am hopeful that Hartford will be a cultur- ally rich city that draws people to live and visit. The investment in diversity and rebuilding will need to continue and additional funding allocated to see this through. Hartford is a great place to live and work so we need to instill that in those who have had some struggles and help them back on their feet as a pro- ductive part of revitalizing the city. List four reasons why you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty: Director of Double Dog Rescue (saving hun- dreds of dogs per year). Co-leader of the Aerospace Employment Placement Program, AEPP. Director of business development at Cyient servicing a large aerospace company. Continue to be involved in help- ing my local community and the Greater Hartford area reduce homelessness. I find being outdoors the best motivator and stress reliever. I love taking my dogs and daughter for long runs and walks.
