The Seattle online retailer didn't respond to multiple requests for comment, nor did Colony Realty Partners of Boston, its landlord at 12 Industrial Road off Route 109. Milford Town Hall had record only of Amazon's temporary occupancy permit, issued last September. Job postings are listed for the Milford facility, however. The company opened a much larger 1.3-million-square-foot fulfillment center in Fall River in March. Amazon issued a press release announcing that facility in 2015, but made no such declaration about the Milford center. Amazon has been in the headlines for its $13.7-billion purchase of 460-store chain Whole Foods Market, which sent stock of competing supermarket companies tumbling as analysts suspected what the joining of the two companies could mean for the notoriously low-margin grocery industry. In the meantime, rumors have been reported that Amazon may be eyeing Westborough's BJ's Wholesale Club. Earlier this year, The Wall Street Journal reported that BJ's owners owners, CVC Capital Partners of Luxembourg and Leonard Green & Partners of Los Angeles, were hiring invest- ment bankers to consider their options for a sale.
