Worcester State's newest residence hall, housing 400 students, both first- year and upper-class stu - dents, and features the main campus dining hall with 2-story windows overlooking John F. Coughlin Field. Renovated its 1971 build- ing in 2015 to add 50,000 square feet and re-do the existing 198,000 square feet. As part of the renova - tion, more than 95 percent of the existing building was reused, including the walls, floors and roof. Skylights and new win - dows brought natural day- light into the building, and a white membrane was added to the roof to reflect heat from the sun. The site is more than 85 percent open space, all of which is vegetated with water effi - cient landscaping and native plants. Recognized in 2009 by the by the Massachusetts Toxic Use Reduction Institute at UMass Lowell for recycling 3.6 million gallons of clean and flush water associated with facility startup. Newest residence hall at Framingham State, with approximately 315 residents on six floors. The building features energy- efficient fiberglass windows, suite bedrooms with vacancy sensors turning off lights if students forget, and heat automatically turns off when windows are opened.
