TRC established its Maine presence, headquartered in Augusta, in 2002, and now employs nearly 400 staff in Maine. TRC in Maine Since 2002, TRC's Maine employees have supported or cur- rently support hundreds of projects in Maine, New England and nationwide. TRC has five locations in Maine with two offices in Augusta, as well as one each in Scarborough, Ellsworth and South Portland. TRC's Geologists and Hydrogeologists have become a national "center of excellence" in resolving complicated groundwater contamination as well as groundwater supply issues, using complex models and detailed analytical techniques and apply this expertise across the country. Wetlands and envi- ronmental permitting teams specialize in linear projects such as pipelines and power transmission lines. Likewise, the Power Delivery Engineering group works on modernizing the power grid for utilities and industrial clients from Maine to California and support various renewable energy projects in wind, solar and hydro power. (Brandon Matthews Sr. Project Manager, Power Delivery) Some significant project achievements include: • In 2010, TRC signed on as one of the contractors responsible for implementing Central Maine Power Company's huge Maine Power Reliability Program (MPRP). • By the time it was completed in 2015, this project would be one of the largest electrical transmission projects in New England and the largest construction project in Maine. e finished project utilized new engineering standards and technology for more than 5,000 structures along a nearly 200-mile corridor from Eliot, Maine to Orrington. is project involves many different disciplines within TRC, from environmental permitting and remediation, to geotechnical, civil and electrical engineering to construction management. • Early in the MPRP project, TRC conducted environmental due diligence to search for environmental impairment which might impact the project. TRC navigated countless complexities involving design, engineering, permitting, construction, testing and commissioning, as well as collaboration among multiple entities that included state government, municipal govern- ments across 50-60 communities, thousands of landowners, other utilities to achieve interfaces, numerous contractors and more than 2,700 employees at the peak of construction. e project included the construction of five new 345kV substa- tions, one new 115kV substation, and related facilities linked by approximately 440 miles of new transmission lines. e result? e completed Maine Power Reliability Program ensures the long-term reliability of CMP's bulk power system—reinforces the backbone of the company's 40-year-old bulk power system. • Kibby Wind Farm Substation – is involved environmental permitting, engineering, design, project management, construc- tion management, and testing and commissioning activities. is included the rebuild of a Central Maine Power's existing substation that supplied Carrabassett Valley and provided inter- connection to TransCanada's Kibby Wind Farm. Additionally, the project included major improvements at four additional substations. Challenges with the project included the design of a temporary substation to facilitate the removal of the site's existing substation, while maintaining distribution service to the area served.
