EDUCATION USJ to admit male students next year After approximately 85 years, the University of St. Joseph plans to enroll men into its undergraduate pro- grams next fall, it leaders announced. The decision to go co-ed comes amid a dip in enrollment in recent years at the West Hartford private institution, which has its pharmacy school in downtown Hartford. Undergraduate fall 2016 enrollment totaled 894 full- and part-time students, down from 960 in 2015 and 1,065 in 2012, according to data reported to the federal government. In a YouTube video, President Rhona Free said the decision came after consultation with students, alumni and others. "While some would prefer the university experience continue as it was, there is a shared understanding about how student interests have changed in regards to the kinds of college experience they want to have," Free said. UConn bookstore being redesigned as 'social hub' UConn's campus bookstore in Storrs is getting a $3 million physical makeover in time for the new academic year this fall. With a new entrance from the outdoor seating area along Hillside Road and a full-service Starbucks cafe, the 45,000-square-foot UConn Bookstore will also feature a public seating area of 3,000 square feet on the second floor, overlooking Gampel Pavilion and the future site of the new Student Recreation Center. Len Oser, general manager of The UConn Bookstores, says the changes aim to make the bookstore a meeting place for students, faculty, alumni and visitors. The work is being paid for by Barnes & Noble, he said.
