TECHNOLOGY CT to get up to speed on driverless-vehicle testing Connecticut lawmakers have passed a bill that would allow testing of driverless vehicles in up to four municipalities, a step already in the works in other states. Senate Bill 260, approved by both the House and Senate, cre- ates a pilot program allowing manufacturers and fleet service providers to test fully autonomous vehicles in Connecticut. It es- tablishes testing requirements and requires participating munici- palities to enter into agreements with autonomous vehicle testers. The testing is intended to help the state determine how best to prepare for anticipated growth in driverless cars. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said he intends to sign the bill into law. He said the program the bill sets up shows the state embraces in- novation. Other states are already testing driverless vehicles and Connecticut must not be left behind, he said. TRANSPORTATION Lawmakers approve ridesharing bill The state Senate last week joined the House in passing a bill that cre- ates statewide regulations of ridesharing companies like Lyft and Uber. If Gov. Dannel P. Malloy approves the measure, which is ex- pected, Connecticut would be the 42nd state in the country to enact such legislation. The bill would require ridesharing networks to register annu- ally starting Jan. 1, 2018, display credentials, provide receipts for services offered digitally, and have drivers submit to national and state background checks. The state would also regulate what it calls "dynamic" or on-demand pricing for services. The proposed law would go into effect July 1. Both Uber and Lyft, which already operate in Connecticut, is- sued statements hailing the bill's passage. HOSPITALITY & TOURISM Foxwoods adding zipline to diversify offerings Foxwoods Resort Casino is adding a zipline attraction to its Mashantucket casino this summer in an effort to diversify its en- tertainment offerings. The so-called "Highflyer Zipline" extends 33 stories above the Mashantucket Pequot tribe's reservation, from the top of Fox Tower to the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center. Riders will travel as fast as 60 mph on four parallel lines running more than 3,750 feet long, the tribe said. The new attraction is meant to kick off a "strategic expansion" beyond gaming "that will offer guests exclusive and unforgettable experiences in one place," Foxwoods CEO Felix Rappaport said in a statement. It also helps mark the casino's 25th anniversary, he said. Later this summer, Foxwoods is also adding Italian restaurant Caputo Trattoria in partnership with Craveable Hospitality Group, owners of David Burke Prime.
