92 Doing Business in Connecticut | 2017 increased capital spending associated with our natural gas system to install new pipes and equipment to build in greater redundancy and connect more customers. We're expanding our gas system from Groton to Torrington, sup- porting commercial growth, investing in new regional gas transmission, and enabling fuel cell development. We support our region's rapid development of clean generating sources and are proud of the an- nouncement we made to become a partner on Bay State Wind. Joining with Danish Oil and Natural Gas, the largest builder of offshore wind in the world, we are proposing the first large-scale, offshore wind farm in North America. It has the potential to power 1 million homes. Access Northeast is a natural gas pipeline expansion and storage project being jointly developed with Spectra Energy and National Grid. It will increase the region's natural gas capacity, giving more customers the opportunity to change their primary heating source from oil to cleaner, more efficient natural gas. Northern Pass Transmission is our partnership with Hydro-Quebec, one of the world's largest generators of hydroelectric power. It will bring clean, renewable hydropower from Canada into New England. Our Commitment to Reliability Eversource continues to invest heavily in projects that improve the reliability of the region's electric and natural gas grids. Our electric systems are more reliable and our gas business has grown faster than at any time in decades. We're proud of the value our systems bring every day to our custom- ers and communities.
