F L A S H P O L L The Usual to close on Shrewsbury Street The Usual on Shrewsbury Street announced it will close May 28, after its owner was indicted on drug charges. Stacey Gala, who owned the restau- rant with her husband, Kevin Perry, announced the closure Monday on the restaurant's Facebook page. "This was not the ending I had hoped for, but as with many things in life – we can't control the wind, but we can cer- tainly adjust our sails," Gala wrote. The Usual's executive chef, Deven Senior, and General Manager Joe Herman have plans to open their own restaurant, which made Gala's decision to close much easier, she said. Perry owned both The Usual and The Blackstone Tap on Water Street through limited liability corporations. He alleg- edly used $130,075 to buy The Usual's building at 166 Shrewsbury St. and $111,978 to buy the Blackstone Tap. Yes, fixing the church will be tough and expensive, but if we don't care for our 100-year-old- buildings, we are doomed to have an eternally-shabby city of insipid uninspired cubes."
