REAL ESTATE UConn solicits pitches for new Mansfield hotel UConn is seeking proposals from private developers to build a new hotel on university-owned property near the Storrs Center development in Mansfield. UConn is asking for developers to pitch plans for a new hotel with about 100 rooms on the UConn-owned parcel at the corner of Route 195 and South Eagleville Road. The selected developer would own and operate the private hotel, UConn said. Scott Jordan, UConn's executive vice president for administra- tion and chief financial officer, said the university and its down- town are lacking a hotel that could efficiently serve the university and surrounding community. The Nathan Hale Inn, a struggling hotel on the Storrs campus since 2001, would eventually be con- verted to student housing, he said. The prospective hotel site is currently occupied by the Mans- field Apartments, which would eventually be demolished. ENERGY & UTILITIES Report: More CT ratepayers paying higher third-party prices A greater portion of Connecticut's residential electric ratepay- ers have been paying higher prices to retail suppliers instead of paying standard-offer prices set by the state's two major utilities, according to the Office of Consumer Counsel. The OCC has issued reports on third-party "competitive" suppli- ers since 2014. The latest data for March shows that 65.3 percent of Eversource customers who opted for competitive suppliers paid a total of $3.2 million more than they would have under the standard rate offered by Eversource. Last March, 51.9 percent paid an ad- ditional $1.8 million to competitive suppliers. Avangrid customers also paid more in the recent month to al- ternative suppliers — a total of $244,795 more than the standard Avangrid offer. Competitive suppliers have been losing market share in recent years, as customers return to utilities for electricity supply. As of March, retail suppliers served 28 percent of Eversource's customers, down from 31 percent a year ago. Meanwhile, retail suppliers in Avangrid's territory saw their market share remain flat at 36 percent, OCC said. April area house, condo sales slip Hartford area single-family home and condo sales softened in April, with median sale prices lower for both, Realtors say. Buyers closed on 884 houses last month, 2 percent fewer than the 901 units closed on in April 2016, the Greater Hartford As- sociation of Realtors said. Median price for those sold units fell 2.8 percent in April to $210,000 vs. $216,000 the same month a year ago, GHAR said. Through the first four months of this year, area home sales are up 3 percent from the same period a year ago, with median price down 2.4 percent, to $200,000. Condo sales fell 2.4 percent to 205 units sold in April. Median sale price was essentially flat at $133,500. Kent Schwendy XL Center Concerts & Events Hilton Hartford is connected to the XL Center.
