REAL ESTATE UConn trustees approve $1M sale of W.Htfd. campus to town UConn's board of trustees last week unanimously approved the sale of the school's Greater Hartford campus property to the town of West Hartford, for a much smaller pricetag than originally anticipated. The deal's revised terms, which West Hartford's town council also approved, include the university selling the property to the town for $1 million, down from an original $5 million pricetag. As part of the agreement, UConn would receive 90 percent of the sales proceeds if West Hartford resells the property before Oct. 1, 2026, the university said. UConn is vacating the 58-acre location to move operations to its new campus in downtown Hartford, and had been working with West Hartford on terms of the potential sale since announcing the move. Torres, superintendent of Connecticut's vocational-techni- cal school system, is resigning from that post on May 1 amidst at least four investigations, the state Department of Education announced. Torres had been placed on paid administrative leave on March 16 when the education department asked the state Department of Administrative Services (DAS) to begin investigating $4.9 million in contracts between the Connecticut Technical High School System and two Rocky Hill-based marking and consulting firms over three years. Since DAS began its investigation, at least three other agencies have started asking questions as well, including the U.S. Depart- ment of Education, the State Contracting Standards Board and Connecticut's state auditors. The investigations are exploring how the system awarded the contracts and whether the money has been properly spent. – Kyle Constable | CT Mirror EDUCATION Middlesex Comm.
