180 NE W HAMPSHIRE: First in the Nation • Profiles in Excellence Pellettieri Associates Inc. S ustainability is as much a mantra as it is a mission for George Pellettieri. When he established Pellettieri Associates Inc. more than 30 years ago, it was based on his passion to capitalize on the abundant natural beauty of the New Hampshire landscape through an array of design-build professional services. Since then, Pellettieri, a licensed landscape architect, has grown his landscape design and construction business, far beyond just the practical side of planning and design concepts. For nearly 45 years George Pellettieri has led the way, first solidifying his own footing as a skilled landscape architect, and then launching and establishing his business, which today is recognized as a premiere landscape architectural firm, fully licensed in New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts and Maryland. Pellettieri explains that landscape architecture is oen confused with landscape design. "Landscape architecture began as an art form in Europe and Asia, something typically for the wealthier class, creating projects that begin with the imagination. Today, many people are interested in landscape architecture, and because materials and information is more readily available, everyone wants to get into it," he says. at doesn't mean everyone has the sense of design or engineering skills to safely come up with a beautiful yet functional solution for a client. Pellettieri has, for years, been hanging his hat on his ability to translate the art and cra of landscape architecture into exquisite designs for some of the state's most high-profile clients, from comprehensive projects, like the Plymouth State College campus, to smaller ones, including the Holderness School and Phillips Exeter Academy. In between are the municipal parks and highway beautification projects that require both form and function – and oen a multidisciplinary team of architects and civil engineers. Clients oen have a specific vision in mind, says Pellettieri, and it's his job to translate that vision into reality. Once they have a sense of color, scale, texture and scope, a team from Pellettieri Associates gets to work sketching and rendering 3D images to map out "For me, the unique challenges of New Hampshire's climate and the richness of its natural beauty and native elements are a big part of why, all these years later, we're still doing what we do in a place we love."
