NEW HAMPSHIRE: First in the Nation • Profiles in Excellence 167 Dell, IBM, GE, Teradyne, Siemens, ABB, Alstom, Samsung and the like. Aavid's products are used in a wide range of applications including wireless telecommunication infrastructure, enterprise-level computer systems, LED lighting, rail/ mass transit, E-vehicles, power generation (including wind and solar infrastructure), personal computing, gaming as well as medical, military, aerospace and many others. Aavid's "green" technology has a powerful impact on the environment as it significantly reduces the consumption of power in many of these applications. Aavid started in 1964 as Aavid Engineering in Laconia, NH where the company still maintains its global corporate headquarters today. Aavid rose with the rapidly expanding computer industry in the 80's and 90's. By the mid 1980's, the Laconia facility had expanded to nearly 200,000 square feet of manufacturing, engineering labs and offices which continue to be owned and operated by the Company. e Company expanded its manufacturing capabilities to Europe and Asia in the 1990's and now operates 6 large- scale factories in New Hampshire, Wisconsin, Italy, China and India, with a total of over one million square feet of manufacturing space and 2,500 employees. As a manufacturer, Aavid is unique in that it offers state-of-the-art engineering and design services to customers from a growing number of design centers strategically located around the world – in New Hampshire, Texas, California, India, Taiwan, South China, Shanghai, Italy and most recently, Germany. Aavid works closely with customers early in the design phase of product development in order to assist with modeling and simulation and to develop innovative product solutions. With its recognized leading design engineering expertise, the latest technological design tools and in- house laboratories, Aavid is able to develop, test and verify its designs for the customers. With its recent acquisition of a Canadian soware company, Aavid will be offering highly sophisticated computational fluid dynamics (CFD) soware as a service (SaaS) to its customers later this year. Today, Aavid Corporation is a global technology company with its roots firmly planted in the Granite State. In addition to its home-grown team of talented, dedicated local New Hampshire employees, Aavid also has the ability to bring to its corporate headquarters in the Lakes Region some of the best technical talents from around the world. Dennis Jensen, head of Aavid's global design centers, is in the process of moving to New Hampshire from Denmark: "I find Aavid a company that nurtures people and innovation. It's a great place to work for those who care about technology and humanity. I am also attracted to the Lakes Region for its wonderful lakes, close proximity to the White Mountains, and outdoor life." Norm Soucy, a native of Laconia who joined Aavid in 1994 as an intern and now a vice president, representing the home team said it all: "I grew up here with Aavid. I love the community. It is a great place to live and work. Aavid has seen good times and bad but has hung in there. e company really cares. I love it and I always will." Norm's father Bob is also a long-time member of the Aavid family. "At the Laconia facility, we have slightly over 10% of our workforce with greater than 30 years each with Aavid and nearly 46% of the workforce with over 20 years of service at Aavid." Alan Wong, Aavid's president and CEO and a self- proclaimed outdoor enthusiast, is the most gun-ho supporter of keeping Aavid's global headquarters in New Hampshire: "is region reminds me of the lakes and forests in northern Wisconsin, where I spent 2 summers with the U.S. Forest Service as a Youth Conservation Corp counselor when in college. For me, it's very much like coming home. Our employees and customers have been the backbone of our success for the past 50 years. To afford our employees the opportunity to live and work in the heart of the Lakes Region and to have our customers visit with us here is a truly wonderful thing. e region has so much to offer. We look forward to spending the next 50 years here." v Aavid's 'green' technology significantly reduces the consumption of power across a wide range of applications. An example of Aavid's technology products and services are depicted above to : Advanced High Contact Heatpipe Assemblies, Liquid Cold Plates, PulseJets(tm), High-Density Die Casting, Thermal Interface Material and CFD Analysis.
