At that time, the programming on 89.1 was scant – a mere four hours per day – and if listeners ventured too far outside of the Capital Region, the signal went from static to silence. From those humble beginnings grew one of the nation's most successful non-commercial broadcast services. Affectionately known as 'WEVO' in the early years, New Hampshire Public Radio kept its eyes on the prize – fulfilling its mandate to become New Hampshire's trusted source for balanced, in-depth news, information, and analysis. Today, New Hampshire Public Radio reaches all corners of the state with 15 broadcast signals, from Nashua to Colebrook, the Upper Valley to the Seacoast, all from its state-of-the-art broadcast center in Concord. e station offers a unique mix of local, national, and international news, serving 170,000+ weekly listeners, and tens of thousands of visitors online at nhpr.org. e mission of NHPR is to create a more informed public, one challenged and enriched by a deeper understanding and appreciation of local, national, and worldwide events, ideas, and culture. New Hampshire is a state where every citizen has a say in both local and state government, so the station is committed to providing news and information that helps people participate in civic life and make informed decisions. "Over the years, our core mission hasn't changed," said Betsy Gardella, President and CEO of NHPR, "but the quality of programming, the depth and breadth of our reporting, and the reach of our service has made us an essential source of local news and information for our listeners.
