www.wbjournal.com Worcester Business Journal Business Profiles 2017 15 H eadquartered in Glastonbury, Connecticut with 53 branches in Connecticut and Massachusetts, including Worcester and Springfield, United Bank has demonstrated throughout the last 150+ years its staying power and is ready to write a new chapter. According to Tom McGregor, senior vice president and regional commercial banking executive, United has made a significant investment in Worcester, establishing a flagship branch and its new corporate headquarters in the City Square/Mercantile Center area. "This decision demonstrates our commitment to the market. It's very important that we maintain a presence in the heart of the Commonwealth for our retail and commercial cus- tomers," he says. United will continue to offer the same first-rate ser- vices and products it always has. On the personal side, United provides standard services, including saving and checking accounts, mortgages, home equity loans, investment services, and personal loans, as well as low-interest credit cards. Advanced technology enables clients to open accounts and pay bills online and depos- it checks with their mobile devices. Debit cards contain a microchip, which protects against fraud; Pause-It allows customers to temporarily deactivate their debit cards when they are missing or when fraud is suspected. Business clients enjoy access to term loans, small busi- ness and commercial lines of credit, as well as a state-of- the-art cash management platform. According to McGregor, the commercial banking sector specializes in working with small business, commercial real estate and the commercial and industrial segments across New England. Additionally, United has developed industry expertise in Franchise Finance, focusing on Dunkin' Donuts fran- chisees. Mark E. McGwin, senior vice president, one of the leading bankers on the East Coast, specializes in providing financing solutions for franchisees. The Worcester branch has also developed a niche in not-for-profit/education banking. Lead by Jane Loranger and Todd Mandella, the team provides tax-exempt debt and liquidity solutions to a range of area non-profits, including colleges and universities, healthcare providers, museums and other cultural institutions. "We recognize the fiscal challenges educational, health and cultural institutions face today," says Loranger. "Our local deci- sion-making process enables us to address their needs in a timely manner." Mandella adds that open communica- tions and United's expertise in proactively providing solutions means cost-effective solutions for these clients. As a community bank, United is vested in the com- munities it serves. "In fact, community involvement is a driver of the bank," McGregor points out. "In 2016, our two foundations gave more than $1.2 million to hun- dreds of organizations." Worcester Art Museum, the Boys & Girls Club and the YMCA are just a few of the recipients of United's generosity. Bank employees also donate thousands of volunteer hours to a host of non-profit organizations and events. "It's extremely important. It goes back to the people we hire who have deep roots in the community," asserts McGregor. United Bank continues to fulfill its promise of more – more technology, more products and services, and more community commitment, now with a local pres- ence. n W O R C E S T E R , M A United Bank Address: Worcester HQ's: One Mercantile Street, Worcester, MA 01608 Phone: 508-793-8350/866-959-2265 Website: www.bankatunited.com Product or Service: A full spectrum of financial products and services, including personal and commercial banking, mortgages and investment services.
