They want to have an impact that not only shapes their organization today, but leaves a lasting impression to future generations. As we celebrate the 15th anniversary of our annual Women in Business awards, we've chosen a "legacy" theme. In the pages that follow we recognize eight remarkable women who are making a difference within their organization and the commu- nity. We also highlight the legacies they'd like to leave behind and insights into how they maintain long-term success and a satisfying work-life balance amid busy professional and personal schedules. This year's winners come from diverse backgrounds and industries. We've got a managing partner of a major law firm and a senior executive at one of the country's largest health insurance companies. Our winners also include an innovator who has broken ground on new drug discoveries, a chief marketing officer at one of the state's largest banks, and the head of a historic tourist attraction. We're also spotlighting healthcare and education executives. In each of the past 15 years, Hartford Business Journal has hon- ored eight of the region's most talented women in leadership roles throughout central Connecticut. The winners are nominated by readers and chosen by a panel of independent judges. This year we'd like to thank Anne L. Elvgren (president of Elvgren Associates), Ted Carroll (president of Leadership Greater Hartford), and Amanda Mueller (senior vice president at Cashman + Katz Integrated Com- munications), for helping choose our winners. The honorees demonstrate a business savvy, confidence in themselves and their organizations, and a strong track record of professional success.
