When polled, WBJ readers said the hockey developments will stir up activity downtown, but they won't have more than a mild impact. F L A S H P O L L Hologic pays $1.7B for cosmetics company Hologic, a Marlborough women's health product company, is buying Westford medical products firm Cynosure for $1.65 billion cash. The deal, approved by both compa- nies' boards, values Cynosure at $66 a share and is expected to close by April. Hologic said buying Cynosure will allow it to enter the fast-growing medical cosmetic products field, which Hologic said exceeds $2 billion worldwide and will grow at a double-digit rate annually. SeaChange lays off 200+ in restructuring Video technology company SeaChange International has eliminated more than 200 workers as it navigates challenges brought by a fast-changing industry. The Acton firm struggled since last fiscal year, when it totaled about $48 million in losses. In January, it recorded an $8.4-million fourth-quarter loss. CEO Ed Terino said SeaChange laid off more than 200 workers globally with- in the past year, cuts that will save the company more than $30 million. Compared to competitors, SeaChange's revenue per employee was lagging. From more than 700 employees when Terino became CEO in April, there are now less than 500. The Acton headquarters, with engineering and main-office operations, has 200 workers. Terino said the rough patch is caused by industry turmoil in the industry.
