LET OUR RETIREMENT PLAN EXPERTS CHART YOUR FIRM'S PLAN South Worcester Industrial Park sells out The final parcel at the South Worcester Industrial Park (SWIP) has been sold, City Manager Edward Augustus announced in October. The parcel at 26 South Gate St. was sold for $65,000 to Chacharone Properties, according to city officials. The company announced it will build a 7,500-square-foot manufacturing build- ing on the site. This is in addition to the company's other projects at the site that include a 50,000-square-foot building being specifically constructed for Table Talk Pies as well as another 8,000-square- foot manufacturing building being cre- ated ahead of a tenant. "I find there is a great need for industrial sites in Worcester, so that is where we are concentrating our effort," said James Chacharone, founder of Chacharone Properties. The sale marks the culmination of over 20 years of work bringing SWIP to its potential, said Augustus. The industrial jobs that will be brought to the area as a result of this construction will revitalize this section of Worcester and represents the work that is con- tinuing throughout the city, neighbor- hood by neighborhood even as con- struction surges forward downtown. "It's not just about downtown eco- nomic development, and jobs are not just downtown. They are across the city," Augustus said. The buildings in the industrial park cover more than 200,000 square feet of space, according to city officials. More than 750 educated through training programs Two Central Massachusetts training programs have completed educating employees at 17 different manufactur- ing companies, creating 40 new jobs and retaining 32 employees as a result. The programs funded by the Workforce Training Fund Program man- aged by the Commonwealth Corp. offered education with the goal of updat- ing the skills of the companies' workforc- es. The trainings were coordinated by the Central MA Workforce Investment Board in partnership with the Massachusetts Manufacturing Extension Partnership, which provided instruction. Topics ranged from basic manufac- turing skills to leadership training, job safety and included more specific pro- grams such as geometric dimensioning and tolerencing. The participating manufacturers completed a total of 96 trainings and trained 779 employees over the course Harry Kokkinis, president of Table Talk Pies, said it was important to have this new Table Talk facility located at the South Worcester Industrial Park.
