Cross Sound Ferry Services Inc.
Serving almost 1.5 million passengers annually
with a fleet of vehicle-passenger ferries and two
state-of-the-art, high-speed passenger-only
ferries, Cross Sound Ferry Services is the largest
marine transportation service in the state and an
economic driver in Southeastern Connecticut.
From its main terminal in New London, vessels
make up to 70 arrivals and departures daily to
and from Orient Point, Long Island, N.Y., and
Block Island, R.I. In 2015, the company initiated
its award-winning narrated Lighthouse Cruises,
and have pledged $100,000 in support of the
National Coast Guard Museum to be built in
downtown New London. Cross Sound has been
owned and operated by the Wronowski family
for more than 40 years, and employs over 450
people in peak season and over 300 year-round.
Connecticut's Submarine Century
Submarine Century was proposed by Groton
Mayor Marian Galbraith, who, with the help of
an executive committee, designed a year-long
program for local residents and tourists of all
ages to celebrate the contribution submarines
have made to the local economy and culture.
Thanks to 31 corporate sponsors and nearly 80
volunteers, nine (of the 36 total) events alone
reported more than 2,500 attendees. The
importance of Sub Century to the Southeastern
Connecticut economy stems from its power
to bring residents out to rediscover their
communities and provide a new way to
engage new visitors and inspire future visits. All
proceeds will be used to fund efforts to bring
the sail of the USS Groton home and placed on
permanent display.
