TOP FUNDING SOURCES Corporate Donations: 34% Individual Donations: 25% Foundation Donations: 11% United Way: 9% Planned Giving: 15% Special Events: 4% The American Red Cross is where people mobilize to help their neighbors — across the street, across the country, and across the world — in emergencies. Each year, across the nation in communities large and small, victims of nearly 66,000 disasters turn to neighbors — the more than half a million volunteers and more than 31,000 employees of the Red Cross for help. An average of more than 7 million people a year receive Red Cross training in first aid, water safety and other skills that help save lives. In Connecticut, we helped victims of more than 600 disasters with a team of nearly 3,000 volunteer staff. We reached nearly 70,000 people with training in First Aid, CPR, Lifeguard training, Babysitter training, Community Disaster Education programs and more. We are also actively installing free smoke alarms across the state as part of the Red Cross Home Fire Preparedness Campaign. The program was developed to reduce the number of deaths and injuries due to home fires — and last year we installed nearly 6,000 smoke alarms, helping to make Connecticut homes safer. In addition, we helped more than 600 Connecticut military families with emergency communications, counseling services and emergency financial assistance. And our volunteers supported thousands of blood drives where more than 112,000 units of life-saving blood were collected. FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES The American Red Cross has special events throughout the year. You can support our statewide events by sponsoring or attending our Red, White & YOU Ball or our Connecticut Heroes Breakfast. Donations of live and silent auction items for our Red White & YOU Ball are also welcome. For more information about events, contact Libby Richardson at (860) 678-4310 or libby.richardson@redcross.org. GIVING OPPORTUNITIES Financial donations are the best way to support the work of the American Red Cross. We turn your dollars into compassionate response at an average of more than 600 local disasters in Connecticut each year, providing emotional support, shelter and help with emergency food, clothing and household needs for families displaced by emergencies and disasters. Your donations also support community disaster preparedness education and support of military families. Donations may also be made in support of national disaster relief services. To learn more about Red Cross giving opportunities, please visit www.redcross.org/ local/connecticut/donate. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES The Red Cross offers numerous volunteer opportunities. Opportunities include local and national disaster response, community preparedness education, support of blood drives, administrative support and assisting with special events. If the position requires training, we will provide it, free of charge. To learn more, visit redcross.org/ct/volunteer. Red Crosser Jocelyn Hillard reviews a home fire escape plan with New Britain resident Evelyn Chudzik. Evelyn had a very specific reason for calling the Red Cross: "I'm doing this to protect myself from a fire-I'm petrified of it. I'm helping other people. Maybe they don't realize how important a fire alarm is." Joseph Bartozzi O.F.
