As a broad-based community foundation, we are presented with the many needs and ambitions of the community we serve, especially in these difficult economic times. Currently, our region faces significant gaps in income, education and opportunity. Our new three-year strategic plan recognizes the challenges facing Greater Hartford and commits us to working in partnership with others to address these needs and sustain a vibrant region for all. This fall, we launched a new grassroots marketing campaign, "My Hope. My Voice. My Vote.," to encourage civic engagement among residents to exercise their right and responsibility to vote. We were joined in this endeavor by the Connecticut Council for Philanthropy, MetroHartford Alliance and other funders throughout the state. Additionally, in July, we engaged more than 600 residents, nonprofits, and community leaders at a community convening with Doctor Robert Putnam, author of Our Kids: The American Dream in Crisis. This event ignited a statewide conversation about closing the opportunity gap and encouraged us to think of all children as "our kids." At the Hartford Foundation, we envision a future where all residents have equitable opportunity to thrive and contribute to our region. Effective philanthropy depends upon people from all walks of life who willingly, and in collaboration with others, give of their time, talent and resources for the greater good. Linda J. Kelly President Hartford Foundation for Public Giving From Our Sponsors
