Allagash Brewing Co. in Portland announced its Tripel Ale won gold in the Belgian-style tripel category at the 2016 Great American Beer Festival. The National Association of State Foresters in Augusta presented achievement awards to nine individuals who have made outstanding contributions in wildland fi re protection, urban and community forestry, forest manage- ment and leadership. Recipients included Don Mansius, director of the Maine Forest Service, Forest Policy and Management Division, "Ken Arney Current Achievement Award" for for- est resource management; Linda Casey, "James Hubbard Lifetime Achievement Award;" Robert Bonnie, "Michael Buck Outstanding Service Award" for forest public policy; Steve Frye, "Pete Anderson Current Achievement Award" for fi re protection; Alix Rogstad, Kemba Shakur and Urban Releaf, "Steven Scott Current Achievement Award" for urban forestry; Paul Johnson, "Leah MacSwords Current Achievement Award" for communica- tions; Jan Davis, "Jeff Jahnke Current Achievement Award" for leadership; and Faith Campbell, "John Shannon Current Achievement Award" for partnerships. Spurwink Services in Portland named its "Humanitarian Award" winners: Bruce and Annemarie Albiston, co-founders of the Aphasia Center of Maine and the Adaptive Outdoor Education Center in Carrabassett Valley; Troy Brown, former wide receiver for the New England Patriots; and Lawrence Ricci, medical director for the Spurwink Child Abuse Program. AARP Maine announced that Frank Whiting, a retired volunteer fi re fi ghter from Searsport, was the winner of the "2016 Andrus Award," which honors individuals who make a diff erence in the lives of others. Patriot Subaru in Saco won the "Cox Automotive Leader in Sustainability Award." e annual award honors the dealership for community contribu- tions and sustainability programs related to waste reduction, energy consumption or water conservation, with a focus on innovation, creativ- ity and engagement with community and/or employees. e dealership received $20,000 to fund two new sustainability project, one at the store and another in the community. e Telephone Association of New England inducted Dawna Hannan into its Hall of Fame. Hannan is vice president of human resources and regula- tory aff airs at Oxford Networks in Lewiston. Tax Abilities LLC, a tax consulting fi rm in Lewiston, announced that Michael Ptak attained an MBA in forensic accounting. Ptak is co-founder and treasurer of the fi rm. Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor was verifi ed as a Level II Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons.
