The first place winner was Don Carter, a graphic designer at Adams & Knight of Avon. Carter received $150 cash and will have his design displayed on digital billboards throughout the state. MARJA HURLEY HONORED FOR OUTSTANDING RESEARCH UConn School of Medicine's Dr. Marja Hurley has been honored by the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) with its 2016 Lawrence G. Raisz Award. The award recognizes Hurley, a pro- fessor of medicine and orthopaedic surgery at UConn Health, as a dis- tinguished ASBMR member with outstanding achievements in preclin- ical and translational research. • • • NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF STATE CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICERS SELECTS PRESIDENT The National Association of State Chief Information Officers selected Mark Raymond, Connecticut chief information officer, as its president for the 2016-2017 program year. Raymond leads Connecticut's Bureau of Enterprise Systems and Technology, part of the Department of Administrative Services. Volunteers planted 20 fruit trees at the Community Garden in Hartford. ▶ ▶ The Windsor Chamber of Commerce collected more than 50 backpacks filled with school supplies during the Chamber's annual backpack for kids program. The backpacks were delivered to Sage Park Middle School and Windsor High School for kids to use over the coming school year. KELSER HOLDS CHARITY FUNDRAISER FOR AMERICAN LUNG ASSOCIATION KNOX AND TD BANK PLANT TREES IN HARTFORD WINDSOR CHAMBER OF COMMERCE DONATES SCHOOL SUPPLIES ▶ ▶ East-Hartford technology consultant Kelser Corp. held its 20th annual Kelser Charity Challenge fundraiser for the American Lung Association. The tournament and dinner held at Indian Hill Country Club in Newington raised a projected $27,000 for the American Lung Association.
