B E S T P L A C E S TO W O R K 2 0 1 6 38 LARGE COMPANIES [ 250+ employees ] Tyler Technologies has the same philosophy for employees that it has for customers: long-term relationships that are mutually benefi cial. "Most of our manag- ers were promoted from within and have grown up in that culture," said Chief Human Resources Officer Bob Sansone. "They model the behav- ior they experienced as employees." As the largest soft- ware company in North America focused exclu- sively on the public sec- tor—and still growing, with ground broken for a 95,000-square-foot ad- dition—Tyler is part of a constantly evolving industry. That provides opportunity for contin- uous learning and per- sonal growth—two key elements for employee satisfaction. And it all adds up to great rewards for employees, who are recognized as key to the company's success. "We are advocates for our employ- ees, providing challenging roles with opportunities for career advance- ment," said Sansone. "We provide a professional working environment that values loyalty, integrity and ethics." Specific programs include an employee stock purchase program: Employees are eligible to contribute up to 15% of salary and purchase Tyler stock at a 15% discount, the highest discount allowed. An annual staff bonus plan based on performance offers a target payout of 3% of annual salary. An annual management bonus plan offers a target incentive of either 10% or 15% of annual salary. Performance and awards have been substantially above plan for each of the last three years. Implementation consultants, who provide professional services to clients, receive incentive compensation for achieving monthly goals; exceeding the goal proportionately increases the award. Career Ladders, developed to illustrate organizational and career paths within Tyler, are prominently displayed. There are many extracurricular activities to support charities, holi- day parties and summer outings. Employees receive scheduling fl ex- ibility to meet family needs. There are cash awards, gifts and recognition. Team-building and employee appre- ciation events include tickets to local sporting venues. Onsite cafeterias provide subsidized meals, and there's a fitness facility at the Falmouth offi ce, chair massages in Bangor, L.L. Bean snowshoes and groomed hiking trails available in Yarmouth, basket- ball hoops that encourage friendly competition and promote healthy ac- tivity, and a newly renovated game room. Said Sansone, "Creating a positive culture, where employees are val- ued and have opportunities to grow and change, results in a motivated workforce where employees can work together to achieve the goals of the organization."
