Most recently, Maine Maritime Museum also awarded the Icelandic- based shipping company Eimskip USA the 11th annual Mariners Award for its contribution to Maine's maritime heri- tage and its impact of the economy and culture of the state. Although the shipping company is based in Iceland, the company decided in 2013 to make Portland its only port of all in the United States. Founded in 1914, Eimskipafélag Íslands (The Icelandic Steamship Co.) is the oldest shipping company in Iceland, and offers transportation solutions with its North Atlantic transport system and freight forwarding around the world. In 2013, Eimskip moved its North American headquarters from Norfolk, Va., to Portland. The company set a goal of providing weekly container service by 2020, increasing Portland's viability as an export and import option for more manufacturers and distributors with business interests in Northern Europe.
