SERVICE LOCATION(S) Downtown Portland 2017 GOALS As a 501(c)4 Business Improvement District, Portland Downtown supports economic vitality while improving the quality of life for residents and visitors. Our 5-Year Strategic Plan includes four focus areas: f Vitality: We actively promote and drive business to the downtown region through powerful print and online communications and major community events. f Experience: We keep Portland safe through our cadet program and improvements to street lighting and signage. We create cleaner, more welcoming spaces through land- scaping, graffi ti removal and repairs to aging sidewalks and tree wells. f Growth: As Portland's downtown area expands, so too does the orga- nization's reach and constituency. We are committed to deepening our impact through strategic planning, collaboration and effi cient operation. f Advocacy: We assume a leader- ship role with regard to all issues that impact the future of Portland. We often serve as the voice of the downtown community, ensuring that needs and concerns are addressed fairly and in a timely fashion. FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES We are proud to raise funds and awareness for other nonprofi ts that make a positive impact in our community. For Shop for a Cause Day, we partner with dozens of downtown merchants to encourage shoppers to buy local, give back and make a diff erence. When shoppers make a purchase at any of the par- ticipating locations, a portion of the sale benefi ts a local organization such as Preble Street Resource Center or Portland Trails. Portland Downtown also proudly sponsors another inspiring event: the Portland Police Awards Breakfast. is annual celebration honors offi cers and members of the public who go above and beyond the call of duty in the name of public safety. It's a wonderful reminder that we are surrounded by heroes who make Portland a safe community to live and work! GIVING OPPORTUNITIES Businesses can best support Portland Downtown's high-impact programs and events through corporate sponsorships, in-kind donations and volunteerism. Here are just a few initiatives to consider supporting: f Downtown Cadet Program: In partnership with the Portland Police Department, we oversee four full-time cadets from May through September. To help ensure that downtown is a safe and wonderful place to be, the cadets make neighborly visits to busi- nesses, identify persons in need and enforce local municipal ordinances. f Old Port Festival: Attracting 50,000 visitors annually, the Old Port Festival is a family-friendly celebration of music, art and community. Festival- goers enjoy live entertainment, arts and crafts, great food and more. f Light Up Your Holidays: Portland Downtown brings magic to the holiday season through events like the Tree Lighting in Monument Square, Merry Madness and Horse and Wagon Rides. Additionally, we partner with artist Pandora LaCasse to bring dazzling winter light displays to our downtown streets and parks. f Downtown Worker Appreciation Day: is feel-good event is our way of saying "thank you" to all of the peo- ple who make Downtown Portland an awesome place to live, work and play. We celebrate with free coff ee and refreshments, giveaways and more. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Portland Downtown is a small organization, but we make a BIG impact thanks to our volunteers. From offi ce support to event planning and execution, we off er a variety of fun and meaningful volunteer positions. To learn more, visit portlandmaine.com/volunteer.
